The Tennessee Titans was founded in 1960, when they were first known as the Houston Oilers, playing for Houston, Texas as an American Football League charter member. The team showed excellent form, winning 2 championships in the AFL before becoming an NFL member as the result of its merger with AFL. A statewide contest was held to give the team a new nickname and the name 'Titans' was chosen. According to owner Bud Adams, the nickname reflected heroic qualities that fit the team perfectly. The Titans moved to Tennessee in 1997 but only changed their name in 1999. The team won the AFL championship twice, in 1960 and in 1961. They have 1 Conference championship, 9 Division championships and have appeared in the playoffs 21 times.
The Titan's home turf is Nashville, Tennessee. Although it's famous for its homegrown music, it is also a hub for publishing, banking, education and health care. Nashville has its own version of the Parthenon, actually a full-scale replica of the original. It is also home to over 10,000 acres of parks that's managed by a central board. The city is also home to an active entertainment and music industry, playing host to plays, ballets and musical performances, particularly in the Nashville Opera and the Tennessee Repertory Theater. It is also the heart of country music, with many record production labels headquartered there, particularly in Music Row. The city plays host to several events, including the CMA Music Festival, Country Music Marathon, the Tennessee State Fair and the Nashville Film Festival.
