The Baltimore Ravens is one of professional football's popular teams. The team was formed in 1996 when Cleveland Browns' owner Art Modell announced that he was moving his team to Baltimore. The Baltimore team became known officially as the new franchise, sporting new logos, uniforms and colors. The team's new name was taken from a poem by famous one-time Baltimore resident Edgar Allan Poe, 'The Raven'. They are one of four pro football teams to have won in their only appearance in the Super Bowl, beating the New York Giants in a memorable victory during Super Bowl XXXV.
Baltimore, Maryland is the Raven's home turf. It is one of the most historic cities in the U.S. and is the largest in the State. Once a leading port city, it is now a major tourist, entertainment and shopping center and is home to the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University. The city is famous for its many architectural landmarks, including works of such notable architects as I.M. Pei, Mies Van Der Rohe, John Russell Pope and George Frederick. Benjamin Latrobe's Baltimore Basilica is a tourist favorite, along with the Peale Museum, World Trade Center, Phoenix Shot Tower, Camden Yards, the National Aquarium and Oriole Park. The city is well-loved by its locals, often showing their affiliation and affection through their work. It is also home to the Artscape festival, a yearly celebration that brings together artists from around the country.
