The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 as the Acme Packers. They got their name from the Indian Packing Company, the employer of the team’s founder, Curly Lambeau. The company later changed their name to Acme Packing and had sponsored the team, providing them equipment and venue for their games. A franchise was granted in 1921 and in spite of financial troubles at the time, they persevered to become one of the most popular teams in pro football. The Packers have legendary rivalries with several teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears. The Packers have 12 League championships and 8 Conference championships. They have also appeared in the playoffs 25 times.
The Packers’ home turf is Lambeau Field in Green Bay, one of the largest cities in Michigan. Green Bay has a strong paper and meat packing industry. The Neville Public Museum can be found here, along with the National Railroad Museum. Green Bay has been nicknamed as Tittletown, USA, thanks to the stellar performance of the Packers. The name, in fact, is used on the city seal and is actually the URL of the city’s Chamber of Commerce. Some of Green Bay’s most famous attractions are the Bay Beach Amusement Park, Botanical Garden, Heritage Hill, Meyer Theater, the Broadway District and of course, Lambeau Field.
