The New York Jets, established in 1960, play for the Eastern Division of the AFC in the National Football League. After the franchise was awarded in 1959, the team was called the Titans of York, remaining that way from 1960 until 1962. After considering several new nicknames including 'Dodgers', 'Gothams' and 'Borros', the team was christened the Jets. The name was inspired by the proximity of their new home Shea Stadium to LaGuardia Airport. Thanks to the combination of head coach Weeb Ewbank and relatvely new draftee Joe Namath, the team has won 1 AFL-NFL Championship, winning against the Baltimore Colts. They hold 4 division championships and have appeared in the playoffs 13 times.
