The Atlanta Falcons were founded in 1966, after the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium was completed. The franchise was awarded after local businessmen secured a deal that assured the league of exclusive rights to the stadium. The Falcons earned their nickname through a contest. The winning entry was actually one of several but it was chosen because the winner also included some of the eponymous bird’s qualities, including dignity, pride and courage. Since then, the Falcons have won a Conference championship and 3 Division championships. They have also made 9 playoff appearances.
The Falcons’ home turf is Atlanta, a city considered as one of the best places in America to do business. It is also a transportation hub in the Southeast and is home to some of the most recognizable companies in the world, including Coca-Cola, UPS, Newell Rubbermaid, Turner Broadcasting and AT&T. The city’s most famous landmarks are the Bank of America Plaza, the Centennial Olympic Park, Imagine It! Children’s Museum Piedmont Park, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum and the Carter Center. There are also several notable structures designed by many important architects, including Richard Meier, Renzo Piano, Michael Graves and Marcel Breuer. Atlanta is also known for its classical music, thanks to the Atlanta Opera, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Ballet and the Atlanta Boy Choir.
