The team we now know as the Philadelphia Eagles were known as the Frankford Yellow Jackets. In 1933, they were purchased by Lud Wray and Bert Bell and subsequently named the Eagles. This was the new team owners' nod to the insignia of the NRA or National Recovery Act by then president Franklin Roosevelt. As an expansion team, the Eagles played under that nickname until 1942. In 1943, they became the Philadelphia-Pittsburgh Steagles, merging with the Philadelphia Eagles. After the dissolution of the team, the Eagles again began playing on their own in 1944. They have won 3 League championships, 3 Conference championships, 11 Division championships. They have made 22 playoff appearances so far.
