The Kansas City Chiefs was founded in 1960 as the Dallas Texans, becoming a charter member of the AFL or American Football League. They later moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963 where their nickname was changed to the Kansas City Chiefs. They took their name in honor of the Native Americans who once resided in the region, although their owner, Lamar Hunt, may have been inspired by the eponymous nickname of the city's then mayor, H.Roe Bartle. Incidentally, the mayor was influential in getting the team to Kansas City, convincing the owner of strong crowd attendance to the games.
Todate, the Chiefs have won 3 AFL championships and holds the best all-time record for the league at 92-50-5. They have also won the 1969 Super Bowl Championship and appeared in the playoffs 15 times.
The Colts' stomping grounds is Kansas City, one of the largest metro areas in Missouri. The city prides itself in its beauty and architectural offerings and is home to more than 200 fountains, prompting people to refer to it, naturally enough, as the City of Fountains. Because of its many boulevards, it's also called the Paris of the plains. The city is also famous for its structures, such as the Power and Light Building, the Nelson-Atlins Museum, the Museum and Cultural Center, One Kansas City Place and the Sprint Center. Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright also left his mark here with the Community Christian Church. Kansas City also boasts of an active arts community, with its Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Starlight Theatre and the city's own Kansas City Symphony. Kansas City is also home to several casinos, including riverboat operations in the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. It's also famous for its tasty barbecues and steaks.
