The Tampa Bay Buccaneers was established in 1976 as an NFL expansion team, playing as AFC West members. They later moved to NFC Central, switching with the Seattle Seahawks. The Bucs got their nickname from a name the team contest in 1975. It was also a favorite among NFL expansion team representatives and Tampa Bay sportswriters. The nickname was chosen in honor of 17th century pirates who once raided the coasts of Florida. Although the team didn’t win a game until their 2nd season, they continued to improve over the years. To date, they have won 1 Conference championship, 6 Division Championships and made 10 appearances in the playoffs. They emerged victorious in the 2002 Super Bowl.
Tampa, Florida is the home turf of the Buccaneers. Tampa has an excellent cityscape and has been considered as one of the best outdoor cities in the U.S. Some of its landmark structures include the Sulphur Springs Water Tower, the Tampa Theatre and the Bayshore Boulevard, which has a continuous sidewalk that stretches over 9 km. Also notable are El Centro Español, Babe Zaharias Golf Course, One Tampa Center and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Tampa also has an active entertainment and arts scene. Some of the more important arts organizations can be found here, including the Opera Tampa, the Florida Orchestra and Jobsite Theater. Tampa’s music scene is also one of the most exciting in the region, offering several musical genres from classical to underground rock to heavy metal.
