The Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls are the athletic squad of Oklahoma State University. They play in the Division I-A of NCAA and in the South Division of the Big 12 Conference. They have 16 varsity teams that participate in intercollegiate sports events. The team was initially nicknamed the Aggies in honor of the land grants that their schools received but the moniker was later changed. The squad has brought home 50 team national titles, holding the No. 4 spot in that category for the most titles won as a team. They have a strong showing for golf, for which they have won 10 national championships and for wrestling, for which they hold 34 national championships. Their mascot is Pistol Pete, the all-businesslike, pistol-bearing cowboy who appears on the team's logos and during games.
