The Toronto Raptors play in the NBA's Eastern Conference, and as part of the Atlantic Division. They were first formed in 1995, along with a fellow original Canadian team, the Vancouver Grizzlies. After the Grizzlies moved south to Memphis Tennessee, the Raptors remained in Canada and since then have become the only Canadian team to play in the NBA. The Toronto Raptors used to play their games at the SkyDome, but now play their home games at the Air Canada Center.
The Toronto Raptors were first conceived as an expansion team, and like many other expansion teams, the Raptors were truly fledglings during their first years. After they acquired Vince Carter, they started playing harder and winning more, and even advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals in 2001. After the Carter era ended with a trade, the team began to look sluggish. However, in the 2006-2007 season, the team underwent a revamp and started winning titles. The years have been rocky for the Raptors, but like all birds of prey, they'll certainly fly again.
