Learn More About The Knicks:
You might proudly and faithfully wear all the New York Knicks jerseys in your collection, but did you know that the team you're cheering for are actually known as the New York Knickerbockers? Thankfully, they allowed it to be shortened to the Knicks, as the team plays in the Atlantic Division of the NBA's Eastern Conference. The Knicks are only one of two teams remaining from the original NBA who still play in their original home city (the other team, the Boston Celtics, is also a popular team that the Knicks count as a worthy rival). If you're wondering where they got their name, you need look no further than A History of New York, written by a certain Washington Irving wrote of how the term was applied to the descendants of the very first Dutch Settlers of the area. By extension, New Yorkers, in general, became known as Knickerbockers.
While the Boston Celtics have been successful in later years, the Knicks have not been as lucky. What makes them especially great, though, is the fact that they live in a city that truly never sleeps. There are lights and plays, music and musicians aplenty in New York. You can simply walk through quaint shops anywhere and get something out of the ordinary. Or you can run off to Times Square for the quintessential photo-op amids all the neon lights and signs. There's something for every lover of the arts, literature, history, and even politics in New York, so there's lots of things to see – Knicks home games included!
