Learn more about the Clippers:
Before they donned the now familiar Los Angeles Clippers jerseys, the team was living and playing in San Diego, with a winning record that might have been great for a first season, but not good enough to advance past the season. For the next thirteen years of their first incarnation, the Clippers would be out of the playoffs and maintain no good records enough to advance higher.
In the early 1980's, changes finally came into the Clipper franchise, as the team was sold for over US$ 12 million to a real-estate developer and attorney in the Los Angeles area. Finally, in 1984, the Clippers moved to Los Angeles, and played at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena. Still, there were disappointing losses for several years, as well as several injuries. There were improvements, however, as more and more players were brought in from other teams. As the years passed, the Clippers and the Lakers, now both Los Angeles franchises, played in the Staples Center. Today's Clippers are a far cry from the low scoring, but hard playing game of yesterday.
