The Cubs were first known to sports fans as the Chicago White Stockings when they were established in 1870. The name was used due to the color of the team's uniforms. Twenty years later, when the team was being managed by fellow player Cap Anson, they earned the nickname 'Anson's Colts', which was later shortened to 'Colts'. Anson became a veteran player in the team and was affectionately referred to as 'Pop'. When he left, the team was nicknamed the Chicago Orphans by the local newspapers. By 1902, however, the name 'Cubs' was already being used by sports writers due to the relatively young age of the players in the roster. Four years later, the name had stuck and has since been used. Since 1870, the team has won 16 National League Pennants, 3 Central Division titles and 2 East Division titles. They have won the 1907 and the 1908 World Series. Chicago Cubs jerseys carry the distinctive 'C' logo in red bordered by white against a blue or white background.
